Actually, scientifically seen, Earth is a confluence of coincidences.
Possibility of life elsewhere in the universe
As far as we know Earth is the only living planet. But the universe is so big, there might be life elsewhere. Only the chances of finding "intelligent" life are less. Moreover that life must be in the same "fase" as we do.
In other words. Life starts on Earth with micro-organism. You can find a planet with only micro-organism. You can also find a planet which is dried out. Where once was life. Due to the swelling of their star, the planet is dried out. You might see the border where once the waterline was. Above the line buildings, below the line nothing.
In the documentary: The Blue Planet, A Natural History of The Oceans. Episode 2: The Deep shows a world that is totally independent of the Sun. Such a situation can be possible on other planets. If there is no life on the surface, there might be life in their deep see. Less is known about our seas. What about the seas of distant planets. You could send a probe to that planet that goes directly to the deep-sea.
Eventually it is looking for a needle in the haystack in a vast desert.
And again. These are MY thoughts about it. It's very possible that you think different.
I am interested in the Universe and was wondering if there are planets orbiting other stars. Now telescopes are so sensitive that they can measure whether an object is moving past the star.
If it's a planet, they may even know if it's in the 'habitable zone' (See Fig. 2). Many Exoplanets have already been discovered in this way.
Now it is also possible that you do not discover a planet near the star, but that does not mean that there is no planet around it. The planet must move past the star, but what if you see it from above? (See fig. 2) Life might be on those Exoplanets, only we don't see those planets.
If a planet is in the 'habitable zone', there is a greater chance that life may be present on the surface. If there is an ice layer on the planet, there may still be life in the depth. On Earth there are heat sources deep in the ocean where life is created completely independent of the Sun.
If there is any intelligent life in the Universe. And it's searching for intelligent life too. there is a chance we have been spotted. They first study us from a distance. They can see how we live together. Bombings, shootings. It will be no better in their world, but if they see us doing these things, they will think: "mmm, I think they are too aggressive. Leave that third rock from that star. We 'll see further.".
And if the aliens arrive, where do they land. How we communicate. Has their planet the same gravitation and air pressure. Do they also need Oxygen?
There once was a research about Arcane bacteria. Which could be found in Mono Lake in California. The bacteria could enclose the Arcane in their DNA. DNA consists of six elements: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Sulphur and Phosphor. Now it was thought that phosphorus could be replaced by arsenic. It turned out to be not completely true. Read this article.
But imagine there are organisms that have Arcane in their DNA instead of Phosphor. Arcane is poison to us. We have Phosphor in our DNA. That could be poison to them. A confrontation would be dangerous for both of us.
It seems interesting to me to exchange knowledge. Some questions:
How do you communicate? How is your mathematics? How do you divide the time? Since molecules throughout the Universe are the same, chemistry must correspond most closely. The physics has been discovered by man and reasoned. It could be different by them. Also the length-measures and the division of a circle could be different. The ratio of the circumference and diameter of a circle are fixed (π). Regardless of the measure.
It looks interesting, but it may not come to that.
