A portable hard drive is very useful for storing data and taking it with you wherever you go. When I make a backup of files that I want to keep, I first burn them to a CD / DVD. This medium is a bit more difficult to access, putting it in the drive every time. Then I put it on a portable hard drive, more easily accessible. The disadvantage of a hard drive is that if you remove it incorrectly, you will lose part or all of it. In this case you still have the CD/DVDs.
When buying a hard drive (and also a USB stick), keep the following in mind:
The storage capacity indicated is NOT the actual one. It is lower due to complicated technical reasons. E.g. A 2T hard disk is approximately 1.81 GB and a 32 GB USB stick is approximately 29.4 GB.
Maybe its not so important, but I like to play the music randomly. So not ordered by artist or album but ordered by name. In that case you won't hear numbers from one artist after each other. Of course you can set it on 'random', only I have the feeling that some numbers are played more often than others. In other words, you never hear all the numbers.
Do you want the list ordered by 'name'? Do as follows:
Start iTunes and connect your device to the computer.
Go to the icon of your device on top of the screen.
Next, go to 'Music' under 'My device'. As shown below.
You see the numbers on the device. Probably in order of 'Album'. Like below.
Right click the top bar. A list is shown with items you can select.
Uncheck 'Albums'.
The column 'Albums' has gone. And the list jump to order of 'Name'. See below.
Next, click 'Synchronise'.
If this does not work, uncheck the playlist.
Next, synchronise.
Then select your playlist items again. BUT DO NOT SYNCHRONISE!
Follow the same procedure as above.
It is possible that a program 'uses' a deleted file.
Close the program and try again.
If this does not work, restart your computer and try again.
One solution is to delete the 'Temporary Internet Files':
Start Explorer and right click 'Local Disc (C).
Then 'Properties'.
You see a pie chart and below 'Disk Cleanup'
(See picture.) Click on it.
A new screen opens where you can select items. (See below).
Select only 'Temporary Internet Files'.
The rest is not important.
Scroll down to see if you can select more.
Click 'Ok'. Confirm deletion.
Try again to load the page.
It could happen that you accidentally type your password in the user name area.
If you type your user name again, your password is also shown in the Auto-Complete List.
You can remove those lines:
Type in the letters until the line shows witch you want to remove.
Hover the mouse over that line BUT DO NOT CLICK.
See below.
Hold down <Shift> and press <Del>.
The line has been removed.
When this happens the files appear twice.
It looks like this:
Scheme.doc
Scheme - copy.doc
If this accidentally happened with a lot of files, you should select them alternately one by one. That's a lot of work. You can sort the files so, that the copied files are together.
Note: In Dutch it is 'Aanmaakdatum'. I'm not sure if 'Creation date' is the correct translation.
Now the files are ordered so, that the copied files are close together and easier to select. If you want to check them, you can copy them to an empty directory.
If you want to delete the 'separator' line do as follows:
Hover the mouse over the separator line. The adjacent bookmarks may not change color.
Right-click on the mouse.
Select 'Delete'.
The line has disappeared.
When I got an Apple Music subscription, I noticed that I could no longer get my own music on my iPhone. I started iTunes, connected my iPhone to it and went to the iPhone icon (red arrow).
I couldn't check my playlists, they were gone. In iTunes it looked like this:
Solution: To be able to select your playlists again and put your own music on the iPhone, go to Settings on the iPhone and then to: Music.
Then go to 'Sync Library' (Synchroniseer bibliotheek) and slide it out. On the iPhone, the playlists you created with Apple Music will now disappear, don't worry, they will come back.
Launch iTunes and connect the iPhone to the PC. Go to the iPhone icon (red arrow).
You should now see the playlists that you can check.
Then click 'Synchronize' click.
Once that's done, go to the iPhone and go to the Music app. You should only see your own music that you added.
To now show the Apple Music playlists, go back to settings and to Music.
Go back to 'Sync library' (Synchroniseer bibliotheek) and slide it on.
It is now best to close the Music app via the App Switcher. And then open it again. After a few moments, Apple Music playlists will appear.
