Once upon a time there was a group of dogs, they lived peacefully in a big forest. Suddenly they got a visit from a strange dog. He told that he traveled far and talked to many other dogs. He heard that there must be a world somewhere where it is a true paradise for us dogs. "I've traveled a lot, but haven't been able to find it." Said the stranger. "We should then look for that Dog Paradise." Said one of the dogs. "But who dares to make such a long journey?"
One of the dogs decided to go on a journey and look for that paradise. He then said, "I may meet dogs along the way who will search with me. When we find The Dog Paradise, I'll send one of the dogs back with the route to that paradise." "But how do we know which dog has the road map?" Said one of the dogs. "He can't hold the note in his mouth, if he puts it down for a drink it can blow away. I'll hide the note with the route in the dog's behind." He said. "That way he keeps his mouth free to eat and drink." They said goodbye and he went on a journey.
The story spread quickly, and every dog knew that the dog sent back by the traveler had the note with that route to The Dog Paradise in its behind. So every time the dogs ran into each other, they would check each other for that note. The note was never found, but they kept looking.
To this day, dogs still check each other for that note. That's why dogs sniff each other's behinds.
